optional prompts in CyrstalReportViewer

I have an asp.net page with a CrystalReportViewer in it.  I am using the URL to pass in values to the CrystalReportViewer which works great.  However, it still prompts the user for values when the values are null.  I've been able to get around this when the parameter is a string value type.  However, date and number value types continue to ellude me.  I have spent days on this issue.  The only success I have had so far is putting in javascript code that programmitically hits the submit button when it is done loading, not to mention those reports that require string values only.  I can't settle for it will flashing the prompts to the user.  So, I want to get rid of this flashing.  Is there any suggestions?  Is there a property I'm missing.  Is this even possible?
